New Challenges

28 May

So, I had a great weekend in San Diego, number 3 completed. My own opinion is that San Diego is a fun town. The original reason I went to there is because a close family friend graduated from college. I was right though, as I finally headed of to San Diego I got excited to go. It was a five hour drive to get there through the desert. The family I was visiting had the great little hotel that was out on a pier. This place was right on the ocean. The it was a new experience to push myself on a wooden pier. Needless to say it was not a smooth surface. I really had to use my skills quickly getting into a wheelie to get over some wood planks. Craig would be proud. When I got there I sat out and watched the people and the surfers. I once tried to surf and so it was fun to watch. That night the younger crowd headed out to the bars. Unfortunately, it was kinda early so there were not a lot of people out, and I didn’t last all that long. It was a long drive from me.

The next day was the graduation, which was nice. Afterword, we made a visit to Seaworld. Which would have been a good idea, but on memorial day not so much. I can’t tell you how many people were there. The masses really took away from the experience. We later went to this seafood place right on the bay. The wait was way too long, but worth it. I had some carb cakes and swordfish.

I got some video of SeaWorld, but I have not had the chance to do anything with it yet. So, be patience with me as I put it together.

Once I got back the cool weather in San Diego seemed soo much nicer. When I got back I went to check my mail, which reqires me going through the pool area. I looked at the pool and thought it would me nice to get in it. As I passed back through the pool area I really wanted to get in it. I wasn’t sure if I could get in and out though. I had done it before, but I had Erika to make sure I would be ok. I did not have a lot of confidence I could back into my chair without her. Could I really do it alone. Would I be ok. I then realize something that had been on my mind on and off for the past few weeks.

Since my return to society I have been asked this many times, “How are you going to do that”. I had maybe an idea as to how I was going to do what ever I needed to do. Most of the time I’d have the same answer. So, I would just simply answer those questions with a simply, “I don’t know, I just have to do it and figure how to do it and hope for the best”.

So, on that thought I got on my shorts and headed to the pool. I will admit, I was nervous. I wasn’t nervous about getting in, just getting out. And of course, I got in with no problem. I had a floaty noodle with me and dipped my head into the water and floated around for about 30 minutes. As I headed back to the stairs in which I used to get in the water I was anxous about getting back into my chair safely. And sure enough I got back into my chair without a single problem. Once I got back in I felt great. It was a internal challenge I had gotten over. this was one of many. And you know what, everyone feels fantastic.

The point of this whole story is that all of us have things that we are not sure we can accomplish. Some may be internal or external. Either way, all of us struggle to overcome things we are not sure we can do. Trust me when I say this, you may not know how to overcome a challenge, but you just have to spend a little time thinking about it and just go for it the best way you know how. You just may surprise yourself, I know I did. And now, I am going to be gong to the pool a lot more. I didn’t know how I was going to get out of the pool, but I now have one more thing I can do. Sorry Erika, I don’t need you anymore….but only with getting out of the pool. One more thing in my life to enhance anyday.

Lastly, A number people have asked me if I have named my vehicle yet. allthough all your suggestions were fantastic, but I just didn’t see them with my car. While I was in San Diego a suggestion of Ginger, which I liked. that spurred my thinking cap. I came up with the name of Rosalita. So, both those name I really like. I can’t decide, so I am leaving it up to the faithfull readers of this blog. It all depends on you. I am taking a vote with you and the one that has the most votes on Thursday morning when I wake up I am going to name the element that. So, it is all up to you. this vote is important. So, please vote. But, I am only going going to count one vote per person. Again, I need your help on this one.

Today is Monday…try surprising yourself.

Ginger. Way to go in pushing yourself through something you weren’t entirely comfortable with. You’re right, we all need to do more of that. I will keep that in mind as I start the week. Thanks!

Ginger, by all means. Its spicy but smooth, certainly the right color for your vehicle. By the way the car is way cool. I really like how you look in it. Ginger, Ginger, Ginger! Definition in Dictionary is Envigorating enliven, asiatic plant used for medicine, reddish -brown in color. And its a girls name. Come on Joel bite the bullet and name her Ginger.
By the way , had a great time. Hopefully did not poop you out to much. I know how you love to start your day at 6am. YOu were a good sport. Really proud of you, for getting over the hump with the pool. One day at a time! Love ya

Rosalita has too many syllables…so Ginger sounds good to me! I’m glad to hear your trip was good, and your confidence in the pool is restored! Your words of wisdom continue to make me smile…
    Cheers,

Add some spice ~Ginger~. I need your encouragement. I am having a difficult time as an OR Nurse and it is good to read about your ideas on overcoming obstacles. I will give it a try too.
    Did I mention GINGER?………

After all your vehicle heritage does include Pepe so Rosalita would be the natural and better choice. Very interesting and intruiging blog my friend, you never disappoint! Glad your time in San Diego was fun, maybe you need to watch Anchor Man and find out what scholars say San Diego means……… it would have to be the unrated version of coarse.
Its truly awesome that you have conquered another aspect of your life, one of many more to come.
Conquer the car nameing aspect as well, the force is strong in Rosalita.

    Uncle Joel,
I just wanted to write you and say I’m very proud of you and your pool experience. I too, went into the pool for the first time in my life this weekend. I was nervous at first but me and dad ended up having sooo much fun. I can splash and go under water. Can you do that?
You have to come up to Portland so we can both swim in the Columbia or LaCamas Lake.
Oh by the way, Rosalita all the way. Daddy’s ginger. You don’t want to think of him while you are driving. I miss you Uncle Joel.

It puts a smile on my face to hear about you cowboy-ing up and going for it joel. I’m sure that this summer your body will be thanking you when you hit a cool swimming pool during the 110 degree days. Congrats.
Definitely Ginger. Rosalita is too long

I vote Rosalita. Sure it might be long but it sounds very nice. Plus you could shorten it to Rosa if you are feeling lazy when addressing your vehicle.
